More about PUI - Occupied Palestinian Territory

Première Urgence Internationale is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-religious international aid organisation. Its teams are committed to supporting civilians victims of marginalisation and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs.

Its aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people in order to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency. PUI relies on 30 years of field experience in 50 countries in crisis, as well as on the complementarity of its medical and non-medical expertise, to adapt its programs to each context and to the real needs of the most vulnerable populations.

The association leads in average 140 projects by year in the following sectors of intervention: food security, health, nutrition, construction and rehabilitation of infrastructures, water, sanitation, hygiene and economic recovery. PUI is providing assistance to around 4 million people in 22 countries – in Middle East, Africa and Asia.

PUI in the occupied Palestinian territory

Since 2002, PUI has implemented humanitarian projects in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) in response to the Second Intifada. To date, PUI has successfully provided emergency humanitarian aid through income generating activities (i.e. distribution of professional tools kits), food assistance (i.e. emergency jobs creation, distribution of livestock kits or support to livestock farming and to familial farming, food distribution) and Water and Sanitation projects (Water network construction and chlorination awareness campaigns).

Since 2009, PUI has been working on supporting livelihoods and improving living conditions with an economic-based approach focused on 3 sectors of intervention: Cash For Work, Agriculture recovery and WASH (Water Sanitation and Hygiene).

From 2012, PUI has oriented the goal of its humanitarian program on protecting livelihoods and securing economic access to food when and where populations are directly exposed to violations of the Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, and at-risk of forced displacement. Areas of intervention have been targeted based on protection criteria such as villages and agricultural lands totally or partially located in Area C, Seam Zone, close to settlements or to the Wall of Separation (West Bank), and in the Access Restricted Area (Gaza Strip).
