More about Independence Hall of Israel - בית העצמאות

This is the iconic hall in which the State of Israel was declared.

The Independence Hall is a leading national history museum offering guided tours and special events reenacting the revolutionary declaration of 1948 for modern visitors.

The historic building was originally owned by Tel Aviv’s first mayor, Meir Dizengoff, and was donated by him to become the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

On Friday, May 14, 1948, the main gallery of Tel Aviv Museum of Art hosted the ceremony of Independence.
At 4 p.m. - eight hours before the termination of the British Mandate - the members of the People's Council and invited leaders gathered in the museum's hall to listen with emotion as David Ben-Gurion read Israel's Declaration of Independence.

Today, pieces of artwork from the art museum still line the walls. An original recording of Ben Gurion’s speech is available for visitors, as is a short film about the period leading up to May the 14th.

Independence Hall Museum is open Sunday to Thursday 9:00-17:00, Friday 9:00-14:00
